Laney Recycling and Aggregates produces and sells RAP and Asphalt Millings. Asphalt pavement is generally removed either by milling or full-depth removal. Milling entails grinding of the pavement surface using a milling machine. Excavating and full-depth removal involves ripping and breaking the pavement. The broken material is picked up, loaded into trucks, and transported to our processing center. There, the RAP is processed using a series of operations, including crushing and screening.
Hot Mix Asphalt(HMA) that is produced using a percentage of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement is often used in construction or maintenance applications. HMA is the most frequently used material for the paving of roads and highways. Experts anticipate that RAP will continue to expand in its use in HMA in future applications.
Affordable – One major advantage of using RAP for roadway construction is that it reduces the cost to produce new asphalt products. Recycled asphalt requires less liquid asphalt than virgin asphalt. Considering the fact that asphalt contains a high volume of oil and that oil prices are volatile and expensive, this can make a huge difference.
Environmentally Responsible – These days, all of us are trying to do our part to reduce, reuse and recycle. Asphalt is not a biodegradable material, and any waste that is thrown into landfills will remain there, taking up space forever. In addition, non-renewable resources must be used to generate virgin asphalt. It’s much more environmentally responsible to choose a material that minimizes waste by re-purposing old asphalt.
Excellent Bonding Qualities – Asphalt that has been recycled still has some tar in it. This means that, unlike other loose-fill roadway materials, recycled asphalt aggregate will bond together when wetted and compacted, allowing for a semi-permanent roadway that remains in place and minimizes dust and dirt.
Percolation – The composition of an RAP roadway allows it to hold up well in rain and snow. It percolates well, preventing pooling and flooding on the roadway.
Appearance – In addition to being affordable and durable, roadway that are surfaced with RAP can be extremely attractive. They share a look that is a cross between a picturesque gravel surface and an asphalt surface. This unique appearance is appealing to homeowners who are looking to stand out from the other houses on the block.
Asphalt millings can be used in a variety of different ways – both where you would traditionally use either stone gravel or hot asphalt. If you are looking for an environmentally friendly and cost effective material for your paving projects, Asphalt millings may be just what you’ve been looking for!
Cost – Asphalt millings are often considered recycled asphalt pavement – essentially, they’re former asphalt projects being crushed into gravel. Because no new materials are used in creation or need to be transported, cost is severely diminished.
Sustainability – Are you working on a LEED project, or concerned about the sustainability of your project? Asphalt millings are a long lasting, eco-friendly material that can help you earn LEED credits toward your LEED certification.
Maintenance Free – Asphalt millings require no refinishing, resurfacing, or replacing. It also hardens over time, strengthening as it goes instead of weakening. Recycled asphalt is also less susceptible to the elements. As a bonus, it produces less dust and mud, making less of a cleanup needed for you in your home or businesses!
Adaptable to Weather – Not only does asphalt gravel stand up to the toughest of weather situations, snow even melts off it faster, and ice is harder to form.
